Alex R
Alex R creates glass which is opulent and seductive. She specialises in sumptuous fused glass vessels, wall-hung lightboxes and contemporary glass panels. All glass items are handmade in Alex's studio in south London.
Intricate surfaces are the signature style of this glasswork, often with a vibrant use of colour. Each piece explores the magical qualities of glass, a medium which delights the eye and invites the sense of touch.
An alumna of Central Saint Martins' highly-respected Postgraduate course, Alex is a newcomer to the world of glass but is already gaining recognition from many quarters. In the year of her graduation Alex won the Stevens Competition for Architectural Glass Design (2005) and was subsequently invited to create a glass installation for University College Hospital. Her work was selected for the prestigious Glass Biennale (2006), whilst commissioned work has been shortlisted for the Art and Work Awards (2005) and has won two categories in the Pearson's Prize (2006) [Best Glass in Interiors, Best Glass in Architectural Application]. Most recently she was the winner of the Alexandra Reinhardt Award (2009).
