Having been to an open day at Newi I fell in love with the colours and spiritual light of the glass department. I trained at North East Wales School of Art & design for 4 years graduating in 1997 with a First Class Honours degree in Design specialized in Architectural Glass. Having exhibited at New Designers at Islington I then began working full time for a hot glass studio on the Welsh/Cheshire border. It was here over the past 11 years that I discovered the joy and freedom of working with hot glass and developed the skills to be able to produce the many ranges that I exhibit today. A large proportion of my work is inspired by nature and the colours and forms found within it. As a glass blower, I feel that experimenting with the materials exploring its limitations provides me with a lot of my design ideas. One of my most popular ranges “Fire Trail” is a celebration of the glowing hot nature of molten glass when it is gathered out of the furnace at 1100 degrees; the strong reds demonstrate the heat element of the glass, which fades when it cools. Chris Docking Landscape & Botanical Photographic Art Growing up in Leicestershire and Lincolnshire Chris relocated to the Malpas area 17 years ago, settling in Whitchurch for the past 13 years. With an incessant love for photography from an early age, a pastime grew into a passion following a course in digital photography. His fine art photographic work focuses on landscapes and botanical images, taken on a standard 8-mega pixel, compact digital camera. Most images are taken locally but Chris is disposed to travel far afield to achieve a superior shot. Capturing images of the natural world with ardour, Chris especially enjoys shooting the ever-changing vista of landscapes and the fading luminescence of sunsets. A further passion lies in capturing the intricate aspects of buildings and cars. Jacqueline now works full time as a Visual merchandiser for a reputable department store. The passion of that little girl remains today and in her spare time, she cannot resist the urge to create bold and distinctive monochrome ink drawings and stencilled artwork. Jacqueline grew up on a farm and this is where her fascination of the countryside comes from. “Who can resist the sun shining, the birds singing and the flowers blooming. My inspiration is drawn from the natural flora as it fills me with great joy to see the flowers bursting open with their beautiful scents and I enjoy capturing the essence of the seasonal changes. Pattern is another element of my work, as I believe it gives added dimension. It is an amazing feeling when you look at the final piece in all its glory and think wow I did that it’s magical.” Jacqueline Phone 01948 665 016
Tabitha Tansey Tabitha is a glass artist based in rural North Shropshire. Her glasswork is created with a technique called Pate de Verre using small pieces of glass called frit, which are mixed to a paste then carefully packed, into a mould. Precise firing temperatures are used to slowly heat the work in a kiln until the frit has fused together. The delicate glass that Tabitha creates has a beautifully crystallised quality because of the many hours spent using this unusual technique.
Past Exhibitions Sue McLeod Sue McLeod grew up in Cape Town, South Africa, where she pursued a career in science. It was only after moving to the UK in 1989 with her English husband that she learned to paint. Her interest in plants naturally led her to concentrate on botanical art which she has exhibited in Lancashire as well as with the Royal Horticultural Society in London. More recently, since moving to Shropshire, she has taken part in local exhibitions in both North and South Shropshire. The Iris germanica paintings were part of a series which won a silver award at an RHS exhibition in 2005. Sue paints from live specimens generally grown in her own garden. The Iris has been a favourite subject because of its striking form and wide range of colour from translucent blues and yellows to velvety darks. Sue also gives tuition in watercolour painting of all living things - animals as well as plants. Sue Payton Inspired by the light playing on the landscape as the seasons change, Sue Payton's atmospheric watercolour paintings capture many local Victoria Reynolds "Many of my designs include functional pieces like cups, saucers, plates and teapots, which are used to create a non-functional sculpture. I also use images associated with my childhood memories, such as girl’s dresses, traditional sweets and naïve drawings. Work is created using slip cast methods, made from white stoneware or porcelain. My ceramics are produced mainly as one-offs. Continuing with the themes of childhood and family life, plates and cups & saucers are decorated with delicate porcelain lace, bows and ribbon. These ceramic designs represent the fragility of our memories and family values. My designs also include manipulated traditional functional ware associated with ‘a nice cup of tea’ – the answer to any problem!"

This current series looks at the links between all things living: The way that pattern repeats itself in nature and how bizarre things look when we really use our eyes.

My work aims to bring painted effects and imagery into stitched textiles and mixed media. A love of hand and machine embroidery helps produce textured, sometimes abstract effects, layered depth and vibrant surfaces in both 2D and 3D form.
I am attempting to bring to life the organic fluidity and passion of nature, illustrating the micro and macrocosm in which I live. I see my pieces of art as an extension of my connection to this beauty.
