Lancaster and Gibbings

Lancaster and Gibbings manufacture a range of handmade cast pewter giftware. The main part of the range is a collection of photo frames in 3.5 x 3.5″, 6 x 4″, and 7 x 5″ formats. Each piece is individually cast, finished, assembled, and supplied in a presentation box. All of their pieces are still handmade exclusively in their Devon workshops. Lancaster and Gibbings was established in 1996 by Sarah Gibbings and Jim Lancaster out of their shared desire to produce a product that was not only handmade, but also designed by the makers. The aim was to develop a product range whose emphasis would be it's own individual personality. They chose to work in Pewter not only for its natural beauty and ability to reproduce the fine detail, but also because of its long history and pedigree. Although the use of Pewter declined during the 20th Century, in recent years it has seen a resurgence in popularity. In terms of value it is the fourth most precious metal in common use after platinum, gold and silver. Pewter does not tarnish like silver, but instead will develop, over a number of years, a subtle patina that with occasional cleaning will enhance the natural beauty of the metal. If cleaned regularly (every few months) they would recommend cleaning the casting of a photo frame in the same manner, and with the same regularity, as the glass.
