Lush Designs Maria Livings and Marie Rodgers produces home wares based on their illustrative print designs.
They studied painting and printmaking at Maidstone Art College and evolved their business while working in the theatre and community arts after moving to South East London. They design and manufacture home wares and gifts which feature their idiosyncratic print designs which have been described as whimsical and occasionally dark. They use a distinctive colour palette, which includes soft neutral shades as wells as vibrant fairground hues.
Their printed linens for the home are fascinating with beautiful narrative themes and their imagery is nostalgic and psychedelic, humorous and mysterious.
Their humorous tea-towels make inexpensive gifts, or their gold-decorated animal print mugs make perfect wedding presents.
They also make cushions, bags, clocks and greeting cards, all designed by the creative duo and made in house at their studio at Cockpit Arts in Deptford.
Their most popular print is a bold red and black design with a vixen and her two sleeping cubs curled up in a forest glade. The other favourite is their wild pig design. Their vegetable print tea towels are hugely popular too,
People seem to love bold splashes of colour against a neutral background. This wonderful, flexible approach to home-making. Putty coloured, pale grey or white walls and battered old leather furniture look wonderful with a feature cushion - something striking.
"Being too matchy-matchy is going out of fashion - lots of our customers or three cushions, one with a turquoise horse, one with a red fox and one with a bright pink bird.
